[On the Efficient Storage of JSON Data in Postgres](https://www.depesz.com/2025/11/29/using-json-json-vs-jsonb-pglz-vs-lz4-key-optimization-parsing-speed/) — JSON vs JSONB for a data type, `pglz` vs `lz4` for compression.. what combination performs best for the most efficient storage of JSON? Hubert does some investigations to find out how different combinations perform, both in terms of query speed and storage space.

- [Postgres.app](https://postgresapp.com/) is a popular and easy way to quickly run a Postgres instance on macOS and it's just added [downloads for quickly installing a few popular extensions](https://postgresapp.com/extensions/) (PL/v8, http, pg_parquet, and TimescaleDB).
- [AWS has introduced new database savings plans](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/introducing-database-savings-plans-for-aws-databases/) for its various offerings, including RDS and Aurora, which will benefit those who can commit to a consistent hourly spend over a one year term.
- [Schema3D](https://schema3d.com/) is an interesting, experimental way to visualize database schemas in a 3D space. (Use the pencil icon at the top right to provide your own SQL.)

[Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) Now Available for Postgres 18](https://percona.community/blog/2025/11/28/tde-is-now-available-for-postgresql-18/) — Percona now ships a build of Postgres 18.1 with fully supported native TDE and asynchronous I/O. TDE offers encryption at the file level and solves the problem of protecting data ‘at rest.’
