[A Review of PGConf.dev 2024](https://andreas.scherbaum.la/post/2024-06-14_postgresql-development-conference-2024-review/) — Postgres might have seen [no commits](https://peter.eisentraut.org/blog/2024/06/04/how-engaging-was-pgconfdev-really) during the recent Postgres developer conference, but plenty was happening. This is a really neat and thorough roundup for both those who did and didn’t attend.

Andreas 'ads' Scherbaum

💡 David Wheeler also [shared some notes](https://justatheory.com/2024/06/posette/) about sessions he enjoyed at last week's [POSETTE](https://www.citusdata.com/posette/2024/) event put on by Microsoft.

▶[The State of the Postgres Extension Ecosystem](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6thIB2jw6w) — David Wheeler is overseeing a huge push in the way that Postgres extensions are cataloged, published and distributed, and he gave a talk at POSETTE covering the whys and hows, along with a little history. He also [wrote about the Extension Ecosystem Summit](https://justatheory.com/2024/06/extension-ecosystem-summit/) that took place at PGConf․dev.

[Redis With Wings. Better Performance. Less Overhead](https://www.dragonflydb.io/start?utm_campaign=cooperpress_postgres_jun24&utm_source=cooper_press&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Postgres%20Weekly) — Dragonfly (24k GitHub stars) is a fully compatible drop-in Redis replacement. Dragonfly achieves 25X better performance than Redis and supports millions of QPS on a single instance. Download and deploy yourself or get a free trial of Dragonfly Cloud.

[Reduce Vacuuming Using `ON CONFLICT`](https://stborden.wordpress.com/2024/06/18/reduce-vacuum-by-using-on-conflict-directive/) — If you reduce the number of dead tuples caused by failed insert operations, you’ll also reduce the need for Postgres to vacuum the table. Win win.

[Identity Crisis: Sequence v. UUID as Primary Key](https://brandur.org/nanoglyphs/026-ids) — _“When used mindfully, both integers and UUIDs make quite workable solutions, with (in my opinion) appropriately levered UUIDs edging out a little ahead.”_
